About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is in southwest Uganda. It is on the edge of the Rift Valley. It offers a great adventure for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Mist covers the hillsides around this ancient forest. The forest dates back over 25,000 years and is one of Uganda’s oldest and most diverse rainforests. Bwindi covers a series of steep ridges and valleys. It is the source of five rivers that flow into Lake Edward.

Gorilla Trekking Paradise

Bwindi is globally renowned for its population of mountain gorillas. It has an estimated 459 mountain gorillas. They make up about half of the world’s population. So, this park is a top place for gorilla trekking. The Mubare gorilla group was the first to be habituated for tourism in Uganda in April 1993. Today, nine groups are used for tourism. One additional group is reserved for research.

Diverse Wildlife and Flora

Beyond gorillas, Bwindi is a sanctuary for a rich variety of wildlife. The park is home to:
